The Great Unknown

Hiking symbolizes the obstacles of life.

Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to it so frequently. For example, you come across a fork in the trail, but it’s not the fork that the trail map has illustrated, expected in another mile. What to do? Keep going on to the planned route, and take the predicted fork in the trail… or jump off the trail and try an unknown path? It’s close to sunset, I’m tired from a full day, and my heart says to take a leap of faith. So it comes to the age-old debate: listen to your mind or your heart?

I chose my heart.

And I jumped off the trail and followed an old mining road. It led me through beautiful dry riverbeds, past new cactus landscape I haven’t seen before, and ravens flying overhead. Not one soul was around, and it was quiet and still. My kind of Sunday night.

While you’re plodding along…

wondering if your faith-based decision was the right one, your doubts will make you blue. But keep walking. And stop the self trash-talking. Because sometimes… sometimes there is a beautiful unexpected reward at the end.
